The Tater® RSD is a one-handed training bat. It's a short trainer ideal for one-handed drills, soft toss, and overhand batting practice from a short distance. Built to develop forearm strength and bat path in both the top and bottom hand. Hand-built in the USA.
What the RSD one-handed training bat is built for
The RSD is the ideal weight to facilitate better use and growth of a hitter's forearm strength. That includes both the bottom hand and the top hand. The shortened length isolates each hand individually. The hitter can feel where their swing is breaking down and fix it.
The RSD has found its way into professional organizations and become a favorite among pro athletes. Many use it as part of their daily routine.
How to use the RSD in practice
The RSD works in several drill types:
- One-handed drills. Take swings with the top hand alone, then the bottom hand alone. This isolates each hand's path through the zone.
- Soft toss. Use the RSD with a soft toss feed to focus on barrel control and grip strength.
- Short-distance overhand BP. Move closer to the feeder for high-volume reps focused on contact quality.
- Workout finishers. Add a set to the end of a hitting workout to lock in forearm engagement.

What's the difference between the RSD (one-handed) and the ML19 (two-handed) short bat trainers?
The RSD is built for one-hand isolation drills — top-hand and bottom-hand swings done separately to build forearm strength and isolate each hand's bat path. The ML19 Short Bat Trainer is built for two-handed drills with a club-like feel that mirrors a regulation game bat. Many hitters use both as complementary tools in the same training kit.
How do one-handed drills help my swing?
One-handed drills isolate each hand's role in the swing. Top-hand swings reveal whether the top hand is dominating or under-engaged. Bottom-hand swings reveal whether the bottom hand is leading or trailing through the zone. A hitter who can swing the RSD cleanly with each hand alone is much harder to fool with off-speed pitches.
Can the RSD be used in a game?
No. The RSD is a training bat, not a regulation game bat. The shortened length is the whole point — it forces single-hand isolation drills that wouldn't work with a full-length bat. Use it in practice, then bring the swing mechanics it builds to your game bat.

Love this bat! Already getting tons of use out of it. First trainer bat I'd recommend to anyone, and it's really worth getting the name-brand Tater -- I tried a cheaper one last year and the weight wasn't right for one-handed training, it was just a short bat and didn't do anything for the swing. Great investment.
