Tater XL5 Pro — The Power Hitter's Workhorse
The Tater XL5 Pro is an end-loaded wood bat built on the AP5 silhouette — one of the most trusted power-bat profiles in professional baseball. We took that profile and added an elongated barrel that gives hitters more hitting surface, and a slight end load that creates natural momentum through the hitting zone. It's the bat for hitters who want to feel the barrel working and still maintain enough swing speed to handle velocity.
The medium handle and slight flare knob give the grip a comfortable, neutral feel — nothing fighting the hands, just the bat doing its job.
Why power hitters pick the XL5 Pro
The XL5 is Tater's most-ordered end-loaded model, and Yan Gomes — who's swung Tater Players Weekend bats at the big-league level — is one of the hitters who's helped prove out the profile. It's the same wood, the same turning logic, and the same hand-finishing as the bats we cut for hitters in MLB, MiLB, and Division I college play. Family-owned since 2015, 500–1,000 bats a week, MLB supplier — that's the shop you're ordering from when you put an XL5 in the cart.
Maple or birch?
Maple gives you the hardest hitting surface and the cleanest "pop" sound; birch flexes a touch more and is more forgiving on mis-hits, which a lot of high-school and college hitters prefer. Either way, the XL5 is built end-loaded and large-barreled by design — that doesn't change with wood species. Read more in our Maple vs Birch vs Ash guide.

Tater® vs. other brands
There's a reason pros are switching to swing Tater®
Most wood bats are made for retail shelves — lower-grade lumber, bulk machining, inconsistent pop. The Tater® Wood Bat is hand-split, hand-finished, and bone-rubbed to MLB standards.
- Higher density wood lasts longer and provides better “pop” off the barrel.
- Ink dot tested to prove our bats meet professional standards.
- Hand-split wood follows the natural grain, making bats stronger, more durable, and less likely to break.
- Bone rubbing compresses the wood fibers, making the bat harder, improving durability, and increasing ball exit speeds.
