Long barrel wood bat design is what the X6 is built around. The extra-long barrel and slow taper create a larger hitting surface and a slight end load that produces natural barrel whip — the kind of feel that helps gap hitters drive the ball into the alley and gives power hitters the weight transfer to do real damage. The 15/16" thin handle wood bat profile keeps the swing quick despite the bigger barrel.

Maple or birch?

Maple gives the X6 the hardest hitting surface and the cleanest "pop" sound off the barrel; birch flexes a touch more and is more forgiving on mis-hits, which a lot of high-school and college hitters prefer. What kind of hitter is the Tater X6 Pro built for?

The X6 Pro is the most versatile end-loaded model we build — it works for gap hitters, power hitters, and even contact hitters who want more barrel surface to work with. The extra-long barrel and slow taper give you a bigger hitting zone, the slight end load creates natural barrel whip, and the thin 15/16" handle keeps the swing quick. How is the X6 different from the XL5?

Both are slight end-loaded with large barrels, but they're built for different hitters. The XL5 is built on the AP5 silhouette — a slight flare knob, medium handle, and the elongated-barrel profile pro power hitters favor when they want to commit fully to driving the ball. The X6 is built on the 141 turn — traditional knob, thinner 15/16" handle, extra-long barrel with a slow taper. Same end-loaded family, but the X6 is more versatile across hitting styles where the XL5 is the pure power play.

What size wood bat should I order?

Length ranges from 30"–34". Drop weight (length-to-weight ratio) ranges from -3 to +2. Drop weight is the difference between bat length in inches and bat weight in ounces — a -3 drop means a 34" bat weighs 31 oz. Most adult hitters use 32"–34" at a -2 or -3 drop. What types of wood are Tater bats made from?

Hard maple and yellow birch — both MLB-grade. Maple has been the pro standard for over 20 years: densest, hardest hitting surface, biggest pop on clean contact, but a smaller sweet spot and less forgiveness on mis-hits. Birch sits between maple and ash — similar density to maple with more flex on impact, which makes it more forgiving on mis-hits and a smart starting point for hitters transitioning from metal to wood. What is the warranty on Tater wood bats?

30-day limited warranty on structural cracking under normal field use. To qualify, the bat must be a 2021 model year or later, you must be the original purchaser with proof of purchase from an authorized Tater dealer, and you must have followed our hitting guidelines (no cage-style dimpled balls, no storage in extreme heat or cold like a car trunk, no excessive moisture exposure). Why are wood bats cupped at the end?

Cupping is a small concave dish drilled into the end of the barrel. It removes a few grams of mass from the very tip, which shifts the bat's balance point slightly toward the hands and makes the swing feel quicker through the zone. Tater hand-cups each bat, and our process allows for variable cup depths to dial in feel without compromising end-cap strength — which actually reduces the risk of chips and cracks on inside pitches.

What is the black dot on the handle?

Every Tater maple and birch bat carries an ink dot near the handle as proof of MLB-grade slope-of-grain certification. The ink dot's bleed pattern reveals whether the wood grain runs cleanly along the bat's long axis — a tight bleed means safe, MLB-spec slope; a fast bleed means rejected billet. The dot is the visible proof every bat passed inspection before leaving our shop.
