Tater SM6 — Starling Marte's Wood Bat
Starling Marte wood bat design splits the difference between two extremes. Most pro bats commit fully to power or fully to bat speed. The SM6 doesn't compromise either way. Medium-large barrel for the pop and sweet spot of a power bat. Thin handle for the whip and swing speed of a contact bat. Balanced weight distribution for the control to use both.
This is the Starling Marte bat — his official MLB game model, built to the same MLB-grade standard as every bat Tater ships to pro hitters. Marte plays the game with speed, contact, and a powerful approach at the plate. The SM6 was engineered to support all three. The SM6 wood bat brings his approach to every game.
Why the SM6 is Tater's first pro signature wood bat
Player-exclusive bats are how the pro game evolves. Hitters work with the bat shop, refine the turn over multiple sessions, and dial in a profile that fits their swing. The SM6 is that process applied at the MLB level — Starling Marte's specs, Tater's craftsmanship, and the first player-exclusive pro model in our lineup. Same wood, same turning logic, and same hand-finishing as every bat Marte takes to the plate. Family-owned since 2015, 500–1,000 bats a week out of our Cheshire, Connecticut shop.
Maple or birch?
Maple gives the SM6 the hardest hitting surface and cleanest "pop" sound off the barrel. Birch flexes a touch more and is more forgiving on mis-hits. The medium large barrel wood bat profile stays the same with either species. Read more in our Maple vs Birch vs Ash guide.

Tater® vs. other brands
There's a reason pros are switching to swing Tater®
Most wood bats are made for retail shelves — lower-grade lumber, bulk machining, inconsistent pop. The Tater® Wood Bat is hand-split, hand-finished, and bone-rubbed to MLB standards.
- Higher density wood lasts longer and provides better “pop” off the barrel.
- Ink dot tested to prove our bats meet professional standards.
- Hand-split wood follows the natural grain, making bats stronger, more durable, and less likely to break.
- Bone rubbing compresses the wood fibers, making the bat harder, improving durability, and increasing ball exit speeds.
