A bat built specifically for you
Every Tater® custom bat is turned, finished, and engraved by hand in our Connecticut shop, using the same process as our pro player bats.
The 271 has been one of the most-used turn models in professional baseball since the early 1970s, and it's the right place to start if you don't know your turn yet. A medium handle, medium barrel and rapid taper create a balanced, versatile bat that doesn't force a tradeoff: contact hitters get the speed they need, and power hitters get the barrel. The flared knob keeps the grip comfortable across hand positions and hitting styles.
Maple gives the hardest hitting surface and the cleanest pop off the barrel. Birch flexes a touch more and forgives mis-hits, which many high school and college hitters prefer. The 271 swings the same in either wood. Compare maple, birch and ash.
The 271 is the classic baseline. Want a thinner handle for contact? The X12 Pro. More barrel and end load for power? The I13 Pro. A thin handle with a big barrel? The XZ Pro. Moving up from a metal bat? The X24 Pro is our 271-based transition bat. Still deciding? Take the Bat Finder or check the Wood Bat Size Chart.
Below are examples of colors you can mix and match.
Every color can be paired with a different color handle and barrel.
You can use this as a reference to get creative with your custom wood bat!

Tater® vs. other brands
Most wood bats are made for retail shelves — lower-grade lumber, bulk machining, inconsistent pop. The Tater® Wood Bat is hand-split, hand-finished, and bone-rubbed to MLB standards.
