A bat built specifically for you

Every Tater® custom bat is turned, finished, and engraved by hand in our Connecticut shop, using the same process as our pro player bats.

  • Free engraving Your name, number, and colors, included on every custom order.
  • Pro wood Hand-selected, ink dot certified maple or birch.
  • High-gloss finish Proprietary coating on every bat for maximum hardness.
  • Hand-split & boned Split with the grain for strength, then bone-rubbed to compress the surface.

The Tater-X12 Pro is built for hitters who don't fit one category — players who work counts, use the whole field, and still have the ability to drive the ball when they see something to hit. Inspired by Francisco Lindor's custom game model, the thin handle and medium barrel create a fast, balanced swing that rewards discipline at the plate.

Built for hitters who do both
The X12 is our most popular X series model — a thin handle, medium barrel, balanced feel — built for hitters who can spray the gaps and still drive the ball with authority.
Barrel Whip
Thin handle and medium barrel generate fast bat speed through the zone — giving hitters the quickness to catch up to velocity and still do damage.
Balanced Feel
Optimized weight distribution lets hitters stay through the ball to all fields — consistent contact without giving up pop when they get their pitch.
Pro-Grade Wood
Available in maple or birch — ink dot certified, hand-split, and bone-rubbed to the same standard as our MLB player bats.
Our most-ordered X series model. Fast, balanced, and built for hitters who want hard contact to all fields without giving up the ability to do damage when they get their pitch.

Tater X12 Pro — Built for Contact and Gap Hitters

Why hitters pick the X12 Pro

The X12 is Tater's most-ordered X-series model — same wood, same turning logic, and same hand-finishing as the bats we cut for hitters in MLB, MiLB, and Division I college play. Family-owned since 2015, 500–1,000 bats a week out of our Cheshire, Connecticut shop, MLB supplier — that's the shop you're ordering from when you put an X12 in the cart.

How the X12 compares to other Tater turns

The X12 sits at the contact-hitter end of our balanced lineup. Want the classic 271 turn with a flared knob and medium handle? See the Tater 271 Pro. Want the X12 thin handle paired with a larger end-loaded barrel for middle-of-the-order pop? Check the Tater XZ Pro. Looking for pure power with a 243-inspired barrel? Head to the Tater I13 Pro.

Maple or birch?

Maple gives you the hardest hitting surface and the cleanest "pop" sound off the barrel; birch flexes a touch more and is more forgiving on mis-hits, which a lot of high-school and college hitters prefer. The X12's thin-handle, medium-barrel feel doesn't change with species — pick the wood, the bat stays the same. Read more in our Maple vs Birch vs Ash guide.

Tater® vs. other brands

There's a reason pros are switching to swing Tater®

Most wood bats are made for retail shelves — lower-grade lumber, bulk machining, inconsistent pop. The Tater® Wood Bat is hand-split, hand-finished, and bone-rubbed to MLB standards.

  • Higher density wood lasts longer and provides better “pop” off the barrel.
  • Ink dot tested to prove our bats meet professional standards.
  • Hand-split wood follows the natural grain, making bats stronger, more durable, and less likely to break.
  • Bone rubbing compresses the wood fibers, making the bat harder, improving durability, and increasing ball exit speeds.

When you swing wood, the difference isn’t subtle. Every Tater® bat is hand-split, hand-finished, ink dot certified, and bone-rubbed to MLB spec — backed by a 30-day warranty.

PRODUCT FEATURES

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Tater-X12 Pro different from another custom wood baseball bat?
The X12 Pro is a premier custom wood baseball bat designed for versatile hitters. It features a thin handle and medium barrel for fast bat speed, a balanced feel for consistent contact, and is available in pro-grade maple or birch. It's optimized for players who aim to hit to all fields and drive the ball when they get the right pitch.
Should I order the X12 in maple or birch?
Maple gives you a denser, harder hitting surface and is the standard pro choice. Birch is slightly more forgiving — a touch more flex than maple and more durable than ash. Both wood species are ink dot certified and built to the same standard as our MLB player bats.
How long does it take to get a custom Tater-X12 Pro?
Production on a custom Tater-X12 Pro is approximately 2–3 weeks because every bat is built to order in Cheshire, CT. If you need a bat sooner, check our Stock Bats for ready-to-ship X series models that ship in 2 to 3 business days.
What size wood bat should I order?
Length ranges from 30"–34". Drop weight (length-to-weight ratio) ranges from -3 to +2. Drop weight is the difference between bat length in inches and bat weight in ounces — a -3 drop means a 34" bat weighs 31 oz. Most adult hitters use 32"–34" at a -2 or -3 drop. Most BBCOR-certified leagues (high school, NCAA) require -3. For a personalized recommendation by height, weight, and league, use our Wood Bat Size Chart at /pages/wood-bat-size-chart.
What types of wood are Tater bats made from?
Hard maple and yellow birch — both MLB-grade. Maple has been the pro standard for over 20 years: densest, hardest hitting surface, biggest pop on clean contact, but a smaller sweet spot and less forgiveness on mis-hits. Birch sits between maple and ash — similar density to maple with more flex on impact, which makes it more forgiving on mis-hits and a smart starting point for hitters transitioning from metal to wood. Read the full breakdown in our Maple vs Birch vs Ash guide at /blogs/the-lumber-yard/differences-between-maple-birch-and-ash-bats.
Do you offer discounts for team or bulk orders?
Yes — team and bulk pricing is available, typically starting at 12 bats. Contact our team sales desk with your spec, roster size, and timing through /pages/contact-us and we'll send a custom quote within one business day. The more bats in the order, the better the per-unit pricing scales.
Are Tater bats suitable for professional play?
Yes. Tater Baseball is an MLB-supplier wood bat company — our bats are swung by professional players at the highest level of the game. There is no separate "consumer-grade" production line. The same MLB-grade billets, the same hand-finishing process, and the same QA standards apply to every retail bat we ship as to the bats we cut for pro hitters.
What is the warranty on Tater wood bats?
30-day limited warranty on structural cracking under normal field use. To qualify, the bat must be a 2021 model year or later, you must be the original purchaser with proof of purchase from an authorized Tater dealer, and you must have followed our hitting guidelines (no cage-style dimpled balls, no storage in extreme heat or cold like a car trunk, no excessive moisture exposure). Full warranty terms and care guidelines at /pages/tater-wooden-bat-warranty.
Why are wood bats cupped at the end?
Cupping is a small concave dish drilled into the end of the barrel. It removes a few grams of mass from the very tip, which shifts the bat's balance point slightly toward the hands and makes the swing feel quicker through the zone. Tater hand-cups each bat, and our process allows for variable cup depths to dial in feel without compromising end-cap strength — which actually reduces the risk of chips and cracks on inside pitches.
What is the black dot on the handle?
Every Tater maple and birch bat carries an ink dot near the handle as proof of MLB-grade slope-of-grain certification. The ink dot's bleed pattern reveals whether the wood grain runs cleanly along the bat's long axis — a tight bleed means safe, MLB-spec slope; a fast bleed means rejected billet. The dot is the visible proof every bat passed inspection before leaving our shop.
